Colorful Pattern

Children are a great source of imagination and innovations.

I usually pen down my interactions so that I can develop on it for my subsequent readings, planning activities or get inspired for my subsequent books.

Representation

I have noticed that children love to feel represented. When there is a mention of their country, language or culture, they are extremely glad.

To see their faces light up when something that is unique to them gets mentioned is priceless.

Multimedia

Multiculturality

Cultures have many aspects to it, food, dressing, festivals etc. I have seen discussions lead to all or any of these aspects if given time and a little nudge. Children tend to forget their own cultures and traditions when they live in countries other than their own. These discussions make them curious of their own culture and question aspects of it or find similarities with others.

Names

The original intention of this book is to help a child understand the diversity of their environment and become resilient of their own identity amongst these diverse cultures. I have seen that children love to talk about nick names, pet names, mispronounced names and even other given names which is a revelation to the rest of the class and fun to bond with each other.

Feelings

The emotions attached to being called a certain "name" is an important aspect of identity. Some liked being called a certain name others preferred a specific name. Some found it funny others more sensitive. How would they react to a misspelling or mispronunciation of their name is also something that can be addressed.
